Summary

Foresight report assessments commend the report and identify shortcomings

The Foresight Report on Long-term Climate and Energy Policy was a pioneering effort to promote the building up of a low-carbon society. There is, however, still a lot of work to be done. This summarises the conclusions of the foresight report assessments published by the Prime Minister’s Office on 8 February.

The first report, drawn up by Professor Markku Wilenius, provides an independent assessment of the foresight report. The second report, compiled at the Prime Minister’s Office, provides the foresight report authors' and cooperation partners' own evaluation of the report preparation, contents and implementation.   The publications also put forward recommendations for the development of future climate policy and foresight reports.

Summary of Future Forums 2009-2010

The Prime Minister’s Office, together with the Parliamentary Committee for the Future, regional councils and other partners, organised a series of regional Future Forums in late 2009 and early 2010. The seven events organised brought together a total of about 1,100 people. Key data on the Forums is available in Appendix 1.

The aim of the Forums was to stimulate discussion on the target set in the Government Foresight Report on Long-term Climate and Energy Policy: to make Finland a low-carbon society by 2050. At the same time, the purpose of the Forums was to create a joint state of determination in national climate change efforts and attract a wide range of participants representing all levels and the entire Finland.
