ASEM Summit 2006
The 6th ASEM Summit (Asia-Europe Meeting, ASEM) at the level of Heads of State or Government will take place in Helsinki on 10 and 11 September 2006. It will be a historically significant event as it will also mark the 10th anniversary of the ASEM cooperation forum. The ASEM6 Summit will be the largest ever meeting at the level of Heads of State or Government hosted by Finland.
The parties to the ASEM cooperation include the 25 Member States of the European Union, the European Commission, 10 ASEAN countries (Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN) plus China, Japan and South Korea.
The priorities and agenda of the Helsinki Summit will be agreed upon at the ASEM Senior Officials’ Meeting in Vienna in March 2006. The main areas of cooperation have been defined at the meeting of ASEM Foreign Ministers in Kyoto in 2005.
